The Department of Anaesthesia, Madras Medical College, Chennai; imparts efficient and excellent training to post-graduate students by both practical training as well as a sound theoretical coaching. Postgraduate students are trained in the Operation Room and in Intensive Care and Critical care, and in invasive monitoring procedures like central vein cannulation, arterial cannulation as well as in regional techniques including various peripheral nerve blockades.

LECTURES, JOURNAL CLUB & SYMPOSIUM

The Department has formulated a routine teaching programme in the form of regular lecture classes about 4–5 / week on varied topics of interest. The Journal Club encourages Post-graduate students to discuss articles from various reputed Anaesthesia journals every month. A senior faculty member co-ordinates the postgraduate symposium conducted every month. The exam. going post-graduate students are coached by periodic written examination and mack clinical practical examination.

HANDS ON TRAINING / WORKSHOP

Hands on training in CPCR – ACLS, Difficult airway is conducted for every batch of postgraduate students. A workshop on Anaesthesia machine is arranged for participation by fresh postgraduate students.

ANAESTHESIA NEWS LETTER

A Quarterly Anaesthesia News letter is published by the Department and this contains abstracts of interesting clinical cases anaesthetized in MMC, and also an account of ongoing research and post-graduate student quiz.

MACME

Anaestheisa CME Society formed by Department of Anaesthesia conducts annually a CME programme under the banner MADRAS MEDICAL COLLEGE ANAESTHESIA CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION in the month of September. The CME Society also arranges various lectures by eminent personnel on regular basis. The Department encourages scientific paper presentation by the staff and postgraduates in various conferences.
